WHAT THE SCREEN SHOWS

Your P&L, down to the margin of each product

Two screens, one idea: follow every sale from what the customer paid to what it actually left you, and find the products that need a closer look.

The waterfall

From net sales to contribution margin, line by line

  • Every deduction in its placeGross sales, refunds, then fees and logistics (commissions, FBA and own shipping, storage and other fees), advertising and product cost. You see where each sale goes before it reaches your margin.
  • Advertising by campaign typeOne line each for Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display, from the same Advertising API data as Campaigns.
  • Five indicators on topNet sales, net proceeds, contribution margin, margin on net sales and TACoS, each with its change against the period you compare. TACoS is calculated on gross sales, as in the dashboards.

Margin by product

Which products make money, and which only look like it

  • One row per product and marketplaceSales, refunds, net sales, every fee, advertising, product cost, contribution margin and margin on net sales, with the change against the compared period. In Vendor, the product is the ASIN.
  • Cost coverageA column shows what part of each product’s sales already has a cost. It is the quickest way to find the products still missing one, before you trust their margin.
  • No product assignedAmounts that reach you with no product, mostly ad spend not tied to one, appear on their own row: No product assigned.

Product cost

Your cost, with the date it starts

  • Valid fromEvery cost has a start date. Enter one from the past and the P&L is recalculated from that day, while earlier sales keep the cost they had then.
  • By file, or product by productImport a file (.csv, .txt, .xlsx, .xlsm or .xls) from a downloadable template, one row per product and marketplace, or edit the cost on each product’s Cost tab. Every import leaves its result in the history, with the rejected rows to download. Read the help guide.
  • Per unit, in any currencyProduct cost and, when the channel does not charge it, shipping cost (it shows as own shipping). Enter them in any currency: they are converted at the exchange rate of the Valid from day.

INSIDE THE SCREEN

Everything you need to read the numbers

Filters, comparison and honest warnings, so you know how far to trust each figure.

Filters and comparison

Period (compared with another one), connection, country, and monthly or daily aggregation, the daily one up to 366 days.

Evolution and table

Net sales and costs by month or day, with the contribution margin line and the previous period behind it, and a table with the total and the % on net sales of every line.

Advertising by sales channel

A table that crosses where you sell with where you advertise: per connection, the spend by ad platform, the net proceeds and the margin on net sales already net of its advertising.

Everything in your currency

The whole P&L in your profile currency. Each amount is converted at the exchange rate of the day it happened.

Saved views

Save a view and use Duplicate view to start another. Epinium gives you two to begin with: Monthly P&L and All products.

Warnings that tell the truth

Incomplete product cost, latest days still missing, storage on a single day, recalculating or no data: the screen says so instead of showing you a clean number.

PLANS

Every paid plan sees it, each as far as it goes

The screen comes with the platform plans. What changes is how far down the waterfall you can read. See plans and prices.

What each plan sees

Guru stops at advertising. Business reaches the margin.

  • BrainThe free plan has no platform. It works through the MCP only.
  • GuruSales, fees and advertising. The final figure is called “What remains”, not margin, and the product cost and coverage columns are dimmed behind an Unlock with Business button.
  • Business and MasterProduct cost, contribution margin, margin on net sales and cost coverage, plus uploading and editing costs. Paid plans start with 7 days free, no card.

HOW IT WORKS

Three steps to your first contribution margin

You bring the costs. Epinium does the sums.

1. Connect your account

Link your Amazon Seller, Vendor and Ads accounts. Epinium reads the sales, the fees and the advertising spend for you.

2. Add your costs with a file

Download the template, fill in one row per product and marketplace, and upload it. Or type a cost on each product’s page.

3. Read the waterfall

Open the P&L to follow your sales down to the contribution margin, and Margin by product to see which products still need a cost.

HONEST SCOPE

What this is, and what it is not

A contribution margin is useful because it is clear about where it stops.

Contribution margin, not your final result

It stops after the channel, advertising and product cost. Indirect expenses, such as salaries, office and tools, and taxes are not included.

As complete as your costs

While a cost is missing, the margin comes out higher than it really is. The screen tells you what part of your sales has a cost, product by product.

Late charges, marked

Channels post some charges late, so a period still open is marked (partial). In the daily view, storage lands on a single day because Amazon bills it once a month.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Profitability in Epinium?

It is a section of the app with two screens: P&L and Margin by product. It follows your sales down to the contribution margin: what each sale leaves after paying the channel, advertising and the product itself.

What does contribution margin include, and what does it leave out?

It includes what the channel takes, advertising and product cost. It leaves out indirect expenses (salaries, office, tools) and taxes, so it is not your company’s final result. It is the number that tells you which products and countries pay for those expenses.

Which channels does it cover today?

Amazon Seller Central, Amazon Vendor Central and Amazon Ads. In Vendor, the product is the ASIN. More channels are on the way.

Where does the product cost come from?

From you, because no channel knows what your product costs. You add it product by product on the product’s Cost tab, or by importing a file (.csv, .txt, .xlsx, .xlsm or .xls) built from a downloadable template. Only users who can edit the catalog can add or change costs. The help guide walks through it step by step.

What happens if I add a cost with a past date?

Every cost has a Valid from date. If it is in the past, the P&L is recalculated from that day, and the sales before it keep the cost they had then. While it recalculates you see a progress bar, the figures stay frozen and the costs of that account are locked until it finishes. Your other accounts are not affected.

What if some products still have no cost?

The margin on those sales comes out higher than it really is, because no cost is subtracted. The screen warns you with the part of your sales that has a cost, and the Cost coverage column in Margin by product shows which products still need one.

Why does a period say (partial)?

Channels post some charges late, so a recent or still open period can change. Epinium marks it as (partial) until it is complete. In the daily view, storage lands on a single day because Amazon bills it once a month.

In which currency do I see it?

The whole P&L is in your profile currency. Each amount is converted at the exchange rate of the day it happened. A product cost can be entered in any currency and is converted at the rate of its Valid from day.

What does each plan show?

Brain, the free plan, has no platform and works through the MCP only. Guru shows the screen down to advertising, and its final figure is called What remains. Business and Master add product cost, contribution margin, margin on net sales and cost coverage, and let you upload and edit costs. Paid plans include a 7-day free trial with no card.
